Given : parabola that is symmetric about y-axis has its vertex at the

origin and passes though the point (10,4).

To Find : Equation of Parabola

Focus

Direction on graph

Solution:

symmetric about y-axis has its vertex at the  origin

=> x² = 4ay

passes through 10 , 4

=> 10² = 4a (4)

=> 25/4  = a

=> x² = 4(25/4)y

=> x² = 25y  equation of the parabola that is symmetric about y-axis has its vertex at the  origin and passes though the point (10,4).

focus = ( 0 , a)  = ( 0 , 25/4)

Direction on graph is upward
