Before answering this question you must know an important property that all the interior angles of a pentagon sum up to 540 degrees.

Since it is a regular pentagon which is it's all sides and angles are equal therefore each of its angles equal to 540/5 degrees = 108 degrees.

If you dont know this property, there is a simple way to find out. So if you need to find the sum of all interior angles of any polygon we follow this formula = (n-2)*180 degrees where n= no. of sides of the polygon.

In case of a pentagon, the no. of sides is 5. So, it follows from this,

=(5-2)*180=3*180=540 degrees.

Coming to the major answer :

In the given question's diagram, what are the values of a and b? Since a and b form a linear pair, so their sum is 180 degrees. b is an interior angle of the pentagon which equals to 108 degrees. (already discussed 'how' ) Therefore a=180-108=72 degrees.

I hope that helps.
