Solution!!

We have to find the shaded area. To do so, we have to find the area of the rectangle first.

Length (NP) = XP + NX = 6 cm + 8 cm

Length (NP) = 14 cm

Breadth (MN) = 15 cm

Area = Length × Breadth

Area = 14 cm × 15 cm

Area = 210 cm²

Now, let's find the area of the unshaded triangles formed.

∆MNX

Height (MN) = 15 cm

Base (NX) = 8 cm

Area = (1/2) × Base × Height

Area = (1/2) × 8 cm × 15 cm

Area = 60 cm²

XPY

Height (PY) = 10 cm

Base (XP) = 6 cm

Area = (1/2) × Base × Height

Area = (1/2) × 6 cm × 10 cm

Area = 30 cm²

YLM

Height (LM) = 14 cm

Base (YL) = 15 cm - 10 cm = 5 cm

Area = (1/2) × Base × Height

Area = (1/2) × 5 cm × 14 cm

Area = 35 cm²

Now, let's find the area of the unshaded portion.

→ Area of unshaded portion = Area of ∆MNX + Area of ∆XPY + Area of ∆YLM

→ Area of unshaded portion = 60 cm² + 30 cm² + 35 cm²

Area of unshaded portion = 125 cm²

Let's find out the area of shaded portion!

Area of shaded portion = Area of rectangle - Area of unshaded portion

Area of shaded portion = 210 cm² - 125 cm²

Area of shaded portion = 85 cm²
