Area of shaded region would be found by dividing it into parts.

Step-by-step explanation:

Firstly, divide the U shape into three parts.

Two parts being rectangles with width 3.5 m and length 12 m, and the other one being the rest of the portion, lets say semi-circle.

To find the area of the semi-circle,

find the area of an imaginary circle, the diameter here is 7m + 3.5 + 3.5 of the sides, hence, 14 m. So, the radius would be 7m.

Area of the circle would be

πr² = \frac{22}{7} x 7 x 7 = 22 x 7 = 154m²

Now since we just need to find of the semi circle, half it, that would be 77m².

Next step would be to find the area of inner circle to subtract, who's diameter is 7m, so radius is 3.5 m

Area of the circle would be

πr² = \frac{22}{7} x 3.5 x 3.5 = (22 x 5 x 35) / 100 = 3850/100 = 38.5m².

Now since we just need to find of the semi circle, half it, that would be 19.25m².

To find the area of the shaded region, the above areas need to be subtracted, so 77 - 19.25 = 57.75m².

The next step is easy just find the area of the rectangles.

Area of rectangle is length x breadth

12 x 3.5

Since there are two triangles, so

2 x 12 x 3.5

84m²

To find the total just add them, and 57.75 + 84 = 141.75.

Hence, the area of the shaded region is 141.75m².
