It is given that arithmetic mean of

( a - 1 ) , ( a + 5 ) is 2 ,

( a - 1 + a + 5 )/2 = 2

=> 2a + 4 = 4

=> 2a = 4 - 4

=> 2a = 0

=> a = 0
