Answer:

Total distance = 192 km.

Let the average speed of the fast train be x km/h.

Slow train = (x - 16)km/h

Time taken by fast train = (192/x) h

Time taken by slow train = {192/(x-16)} h

According to the question,

192/(x-16) - 192/x = 2

192[ 1/(x-16) - 1/x] = 2

192[ x - x + 16/ x² - 16x] = 2

192(16) = 2(x²-16x)

192(8) = x²-16x

1536 = x²-16x

x²-16x - 1536 = 0

x² - 48x + 32x - 1536 = 0

x(x-48) + 32(x-48) = 0

(x+32)(x-48)=0

Negative value will be neglected.

x = 48 km/h

Fast train average speed = 48km/h

Slow train average speed = 48-16 = 32km/h

Hope it helps..!! ^_^

Answer:

speed of the faster train is 48 km/hr.

speed of the slower train is 32 km/hr.

Step-by-step explanation:

Distance=192

t s=t

t f=t-2

S s=x-16

S f=x

t-(t-2)=(192/x-16)-(192/x)

2=(192x-192x+3072)/(x²-16x)

2x²-32x-3072=0

x²-16x-1536=0

x²+32x-48x-1536=0

x(x+32)-48(x+32)=0

(x-48)(x+32)=0

x=48 ; x=-32

speed could not be negative. so, x=48.
