The value of current in the given circuit is 1.66 amperes.

Step by step solution-:

For finding the current in the circuit we need to first find the equivalent resistance of the circuit.

  • Starting from the first resistor after the voltage source the series and parallel combinations have to be taken into account and then equivalent resistance needs to be calculated.

Two 3 ohm resistors are in series;

3+3 = 6 ohms

This equivalent resistor is in parallel with one 3 ohm resistor hence the equivalent will be

\frac{1}{6}+ \frac{1}{3} = \frac{1}{Req}

⇒ Req = 2 ohm

This resistor is in series with the two 0.5 ohms resistors hence the equivalent resistance now becomes.

⇒ 0.5+2+0.5 = 3ohm

Now applying the Ohm's law.

V = IR   \\ I = \frac{V}{R}

I = \frac{5}{3}

⇒ I = 1.66 A
