Differentiate on both sides with respect to x,

 \frac{d}{dx}  {(x + y)}^{2}  =0 =  >

2( x + y) \frac{d}{dx}(x + y) = 0 =  >

2(x + y)(1 +  \frac{dy}{dx} ) = 0 =  >  \frac{dy}{dx} + 1 = 0
