Correct question:- Three numbers are in the ratio 3:4:5. If the sum of the largest and the smallest numbers exceeds the third number by 64, find the numbers.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Given:

  • The ratio = 3:4:5
  • Sum of largest and smallest number exceeds the third number by 64.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Need to find:

  • The three numbers =?

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Soluton:

  • Let the common multiple of the tree numbers be x

Then the three numbers will be:

  • 3x
  • 4x and
  • 5x

Clearly 5x will be the largest number and 3x will be the smallest number.

According to the question,

5x+ 3x = 64+ 4x

→ 8x = 64+ 4x

→ 8x - 4x = 64

→ 4x = 64

→ x = 64÷ 4

x = 16

Then the tree numbers will be:

  • 3x = 3×16 = 48
  • 4x= 4× 16 = 64
  • 5x= 5 ×16 = 80

The three numbers are 48, 60 and 80.
