By definition, the distance of any point on the parabola from the focus is equal to its distance from the directrix. Let P(x,y) be any point on the parabola. So its distance from the focus (-3,0) is √(x+3)2+y2 and its distance from the directrix is x+5. Or, (x+3)2+y2=(x+5)2 Or, x2+6x+9+y2=x2+10x+25
Or, y2=4x+16=4(x+4) which is the
