we know that-

kinetic energy k= 1/2 mvsq

we know that v= rw(omega)

k= 1/2 m(rw)sq

k= 1/2 m r sq w sq

we know that

moment of inertia I= m r sq

kw= 1/2 .I.w sq


This is the expression of the rotational kinetic energy of a rigid body....
