AP- Mathematics

6. Progressions

Answer

Given that a2 = 38 & a6 = -22

a2 = a1 + (2-1)d

38 = a1 + d ⇒ 1

a6 = a1 + (6-1)d

-22 = a1 + 5d ⇒ 2

By subtracting the both equations

38 – (-22) = (a1 + d ) - (a1 + 5d)

60 = -4d

d = -15

By substituting in 1 equations we get a1

38 = a1 + (-15)

53 = a1
