We have to find the current in the circuit when the source voltage Vs = 500 cos200t volts.

Solution : given, capacitive reactance, XC = 1/jωC

Here, ω = 200 rad/s, C = 5mF = 5 × 10¯³ F

So, XC = 1/j200×5×10¯³ = 1/j = -j

now inductive reactance, XL = jωL

here, L = 20mH = 20 × 10¯³ H

so, xL = j × 200 × 20 × 10¯³ = j4

Now, Zin = R + XC + XL

= 10 - j + j4

= 10 + j3

Now, i = Vs/Zin

= (50 < 0°)/(10 + j3)

= 4.789 < - 16.7°

Therefore the current is 4.789cos(200t - 16.7°)
