Given:

The velocity time graph of a moving body.

To find:

(i) the acceleration in parts AB, BC and CD.

(ii) displacement in each part AB, BC, CD, and

(iii) total displacement.

Solution:

Consider the attached figure while going through the following steps.

We use the formula,

Acceleration = (final velocity - initial velocity)/2

(i) the acceleration in parts AB, BC and CD.

Acceleration in AB = (30 - 0)/4 = 17.5 m/s

Acceleration in BC = 0 m/s (∵ The body is at rest)

Acceleration in CD = (0 - 30)/2 = -15 m/s

(ii) displacement in each part AB, BC, CD

Displacement in part AB = 1/2 × 30 × 4 = 60 m

Displacement in part BC = 30 × 4 = 120 m

Displacement in part CD = 1/2 × 30 × 2 = 30 m

(iii) total displacement.

Displacement of parts AB + BC + CD = 60 + 120 + 30  = 210m
