x - 2 = 0 \\ x = 2

now putting

x = 2 \: in \:  {x}^{3}  + kx -  = 0

 {2}^{3}   + 2 k - 4 = 0

8 - 4  + 2k = 0

 2k =  - 4

k =  - 2
