Question

The length of a rectangle is 4cm less than thrice it's width. When perimeter is 48m , find length and breadth.

Answer

Let the width be x

length = 3x - 4

Perimeter of rectangle = 2( l + b)

\sf 48 = 2(x + 3x - 4 )

\sf 48 = 2 ( 4x - 4)

\sf \frac{48}{2}  = 4x - 4

\sf 4x - 4 = 24

\sf 4x = 24 + 4

\sf x = \frac{28}{4}

\sf x = 7

\underline{\underline{\bf\red{Width = 7m}}}

\sf Length = 3x - 4

\sf = 3 \times 7 - 4

\sf = 21 - 4

\sf = 17

\underline{\underline{\bf\red{Length = 17m}}}
