given,

arithmetic mean =sum of observation /no. of observation -(1)

sum of observation =21+30+22+16+24+28+18+17

=176

no. of observation =8

from( 1)

mean=176/8

=22

sum of division =(21-22)+(21-30)+(21-22)+(21-16)+(21-24)+(21-28)+(18-21)+(17-21)

=-1-9-1+5+3-7-3-4

=-11+8-17

=-20

Answer:

The mean of the given data will be 22.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given: 21,30,22,16,24,28,18,17

We have to find the mean of the above data.

  • As we know that the mean of a data set is the sum of the terms divided by the total number of terms.
  • The formula  is used to calculate the mean is:

        \text { Mean }=\frac{\text { Sum of terms }}{\text { Number of terms }}

We are solving in the following way:

We have,

21,30,22,16,24,28,18,17

Here,

\text { Sum of terms }=21+30+22+16+24+28+18+17=176\\\text { Number of terms }=8

So, the mean of the above data will be:

\begin{aligned}\text { Mean } &=\frac{\text { Sum of terms }}{\text { Number of terms }} \\\\\text { Mean } &=\frac{176}{8} \\\\\text { Mean } &=22\end{aligned}
