The mean of the data is 60.55

Given:

The value A = 62.5, ∑fiui = - 13, ∑fi = 100 and h = 15

To find:

Find the mean from the given data

Solution:

Formula used:

The formula for the Mean by the Step Deviation Method

x = A + h × (Σfiui / Σfi)

Where

A = Assumed mean

h = class size

fi = frequency

From given data

A = Assumed mean = 62.5

h = class size =  15

fi = frequency = 100

∑fiui = - 13

By the given formula,

The mean of the data = 62.5 + 15 × (- 13 / 100)

= 62.5 - (195 / 100)

= 62.5 - 1.95

= 60.55

Therefore,

The mean of the data is 60.55.
