Here Molarity(M) and density is given,
so first we have to find molar mass of NaNO3
i.e. NaNO3 = 23 + 14 + 3(16) = 85
now to find molality there is direct formula
i.e m = M * 1000/(d * 1000) - (M * molar mass)
= 0.5 * 1000/ (1.2 * 1000) - (0.5 * 85)
= 500 / 1200 - 42.5
= 500 / 1157.5
= 0.43 m
So, molality of solution is 0.43 m .
