Champaran movement was started by gandhi ji when he returned from Africa in 1917. It was started in bihar against the indigo planters who forced the labourers to plant indigo. A peasant from bihar persuaded gandhi ji to visit Champaran and see the plight of indigo cultivators over there. This started the beginning of champaran movement
