Net force is the resultant force. It is the vector sum of all forces acting on the body.

a) Considering East as positive direction.

There are two forces acting towards East. 8N, 10N

There is only one force acting towards West. 12 N

Since, West is negative direction. Force = - 12N.

Net force = Sum of all Forces

Net force = 8 + 10 - 12

Net force = 18 - 12

Net force = 6 N towards East.

b) Considering East as positive direction.

There are only one force acting towards East. 10N

There is only one force acting towards West. 10 N

Since, West is negative direction. Force = - 10N.

Net force = Sum of all Forces

Net force = 10 + (-10)

Net force = 0 N.

c) Considering East as positive direction.

There are two forces acting towards East. 8N , 6N

There is no force acting towards West.

Net force = Sum of all Forces

Net force = 8 + 6 - 0

Net force = 14 N towards East.

d) Considering North as positive direction.

There is only one force acting towards north, 9N

There is only one force acting towards south, 8N

Since South is negative direction, Force = - 8N.

Net force = Sum of all forces

Net force = 9 - 8

Net force = 1N towards North.

Resultant force

Explanation:

Forces acting on block A are:

8N and 10N in the same direction and 12 N in the opposite direction.

So the resultant force acting on block A = 10 + 8 - 12 = 6 N

Force of 6N acting forwards in the direction of 8N and 10N.

Forces acting on block B are:

8N and 8N in the opposite direction.

So net force acting on block B = 8 - 8 = 0 N

Forces acting on block C are:

8N and 6N in the same direction

So the resultant force acting on block C = 8 + 6 = 14 N

Forces acting in the direction of both the forces.

Forces acting on block D are:

8N and 9N in the opposite direction.

So the resultant force acting on block D = 8 - 9 = - 1 N.

Force of 1N acting upwards.
