The molecular mass of Ca = 40u, C = 12 u and O = 16 u 
The total molecular mass of this compound is 40 + 12 + (3 * 16) = 40+12+48=100 

To calculate the mass percent of CaCO3, divide the mass of each element by the total molecular mass of the compound and multiply by 100 

mass% of Ca= (40/100) x 100 =40% 
mass% 0f C = (12/100) x 100 = 12% 
mass% of 0 = (48/100) x 100 = 48%
