find out about attainment of independence by any country

My view is that the country 'India' came into existence on 15th August, 1947 and Independence is the event which brought the country into existence. Going by that definition, attainment of Independence should be the greatest event of the Indian history as that was the event which is the reason for India's existence and thus, way more important than anything and everything that had happened since.
