A blood type (also called a blood group) is a classification of blood based on the presence or absence of inherited antigenic substances on the surface of red blood cells (RBCs). These antigens may beproteins, carbohydrates, glycoproteins, or glycolipids, depending on the blood group system. Some of these antigens are also present on the surface of other types of cells of various tissues.
Blood types are inherited and represent contributions from both parents. A total of 35 human blood group systems are now recognized by the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT).[2] The two most important ones are ABO and the RhD antigen; they determine someone's blood type (A, B, AB and O, with +, − or Null )
if their is blood transfusion done without knowing the blood group the blood clots and mostly results in death

There are 4 kinds of blood groups;
A,B,O & AB
Every blood group is divided into two types, negative and positive.
Blood can be only transferred among same group of blood.
But the blood group O can be donated for, any blood grouped person.
That's why O blood group is known as universal Donor
Buy same principal the AB blood group is known as universal Consumer.
