David Living Stone from Scotland was a physician and explorer who was famous for going to explore Nile in Africa. Sponsored by the LMC or the London Missionary and Church since he was also a missionary.
Henry Morton Stanley from Wales was an explorer who found out David living stone when the latter went missing. Since he was also a journalist, his expedition was sponsored by a British newspaper along with the Herald to find Living Stone.
Amundsen was the first man who led a successful expedition to the South Pole. He was from Norway and had private sponsorship.
