The history of the Silk route:
- Silk route, mostly called Silk Road, was a route of trade connecting the east to the west. The route gained the name of the Silk route due to the lucrative trade of silk done through the route from the 2nd century BCE to the 18th century.
- The route originates from China and passes through the South Asian neighbors to the Arabs. The route traded fine silk from China and the vicinity to the West. The route has been a harbinger of cultural and economic exchange between the east and west from time unmemorable.
- Even though silk remained the main good of trade, the route has also been the road of exchange of religion (Buddhism), philosophies, technology and even plagues. The route played an important part in the development of civilization in China and the Indian vicinity.
- The Chinese part of the route is regarded as a UNESCO heritage site and the Indian part is on the tentative list.
