The molar mass of gas is 40 g/mol.

We have to find out the molar mass of a gas of 0.1g weight and volume 56ml at STP.

Given,

  • Weight of gas, w = 0.1 g
  • volume of gas at STP = 56 ml

We know, volume of one mole of an ideal gas is 22.4L at STP.

no of moles of gas = volume of gas at STP/22.4L

= 56ml/22.4L

= 56/22400 ml [∵ 1000 ml = 1L]

= 0.0025 mol

We know, no of moles = weight in gram/molar mass of gas

⇒ 0.0025 = 0.1g/molar mass of gas

⇒ molar mass of gas = 0.1g/0.0025 mol

⇒ molar mass of gas = 40 g/mol

Therefore the molar mass of the gas is 40 g/mol.
