Taxes are mainly of two kinds- Direct taxes and Indirect taxes.
1). Direct taxes are those which are imposed on a person. The taxes have to be paid by the individual. The burden of taxation cannot be pass on to the others.. For example : Income Tax.
2). Indirect taxes are those which are generally imposed on sellers who can pass on the burden of taxation to the final consumers. For example, Value Added Tax, Sales Tax, Excise duties on tobacco, alcohol, oil etc.
Taxes are mainly paid in cash or in the form of equivalent labour services.
