Britain was the chief steel importer in India but during the first world war it had to fulfill the demands in the war so, its exporting capacity to other countries decreased significantly.

On the other hand, India besides Britain had no other country to import steel from and the demands for steel were increasing as the Indian Railway was in a need of Railway carriages.

To meet the demands of Steel production Indian Railways turned towards TISCO. At that time TISCO wasn't a big company but as per the demands and in order to increase the production it had to increase and expand its capacity.

TISCO expanded its capacity and production area with time and became one of the chief Steel producers for India.
