CHARACTERISTICS OF SYNTHETIC FIBRES.

- They are very strong.

- They have a high resistance to wear and tear hence durable.

- They absorb little moisture hence dry faster.

- They are wrinkle resistant hence clothes do not get cramped easily during washing.

- They have a light weight.

- They are extremely fine and smooth texture.

- They are less expensive and readily available.

- They do not shrink.


EXAMPLES OF SYNTHETIC FIBRE AND THEIR PROPERTIES

1.) Acetate — They are soft and silky and drop well. Also dries quickly.

2.) Acrylic — It is soft and luxurious hence used to make clothes.

3.) Latex -— It is waterproof and resistant to heat.

4.) Nylon — It dries quickly and cleans easily.

5.) Polyester — Doesnot stretch, it is soft and strong, and does not shrink.

6.) Rayon — it is fine and silky.

Synthetic fibres are made from fibres made by man and not from natural fibres.

Examples of a few synthetic fibres are polyester, acrylic, nylon, rayon, acetate, spandex, and etc.

Characteristics of synthetic fibres are:

• They have great resistance against wear and tear thus they are extremely durable.

• They do not get torn easily as they are very strong.

• Water is absorbed by them in the least, thus making them dry easily.

• The clothes made of these fibres are resistant to wrinkles.

• They are very light weight and have no shrinkage property.

• They have fine texture, are light in weight and available in the market easily.
