CHARACTERISTICS OF SYNTHETIC FIBRES.
- They are very strong.
- They have a high resistance to wear and tear hence durable.
- They absorb little moisture hence dry faster.
- They are wrinkle resistant hence clothes do not get cramped easily during washing.
- They have a light weight.
- They are extremely fine and smooth texture.
- They are less expensive and readily available.
- They do not shrink.
EXAMPLES OF SYNTHETIC FIBRE AND THEIR PROPERTIES
1.) Acetate — They are soft and silky and drop well. Also dries quickly.
2.) Acrylic — It is soft and luxurious hence used to make clothes.
3.) Latex -— It is waterproof and resistant to heat.
4.) Nylon — It dries quickly and cleans easily.
5.) Polyester — Doesnot stretch, it is soft and strong, and does not shrink.
6.) Rayon — it is fine and silky.

Synthetic fibres are made from fibres made by man and not from natural fibres.
Examples of a few synthetic fibres are polyester, acrylic, nylon, rayon, acetate, spandex, and etc.
Characteristics of synthetic fibres are:
• They have great resistance against wear and tear thus they are extremely durable.
• They do not get torn easily as they are very strong.
• Water is absorbed by them in the least, thus making them dry easily.
• The clothes made of these fibres are resistant to wrinkles.
• They are very light weight and have no shrinkage property.
• They have fine texture, are light in weight and available in the market easily.
