The distance travelled by the body from A to B is 36 m.

We have to find the distance travelled by the body from A to B.

Concepts :

  • Distance of a particle is the total length of the path covered by  the particle.
  • Speed is the rate of change of distance covered by a particle with respect to time.
  • I.e., v = dS/dt ⇒ ∫dS = ∫vdt
  • It means, the Area enclosed by speed - time graph gives the distance covered by a particle.

∴ Distance travelled by the body from A to B = Area made by speed - time graph between A and B.

= Area of rectangle ABED

= length × breadth

= AB × AE

= (10s - 4s) × (6 m/s - 0 m/s)

= 6s × 6 m/s

= 36 m

Therefore the distance travelled by the body from A to B is 36 m.
