International standards for regulating the emission of Carbon dioxide are  based on the Kyoto protocol.

Negotiated in 1990s in Japan, it came in force by 2000s.

According to the Kyoto Protocol, each and every country will sought to reduce emission of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane and other harmful gases in the environment.
