Answer:

The amount of Uranium 235 required per day to generate 10MW = 10.58 g

Explanation:

The nuclear reaction of Uranium 235,

⇒ fission product + no. of neutrons + energy (≈ 200 MeV)

To convert eV into Joules

                  1 eV = 1.602 x  J

Therefore, 1 atom of Uranium produces

                              =  200 MeV x 1.602 x

                              = 3.204 x  J

From the conversion formula

                    1 joule = 1 watt - sec

                    1 watt - hour = 3600 J

Given that 10 MW generation per day

It should generate 10 MW x 24 watts-hour

                                               = 240 MWh

Converting 240 Wh into joules gives

                      240 MWh = 8.64 x  J

The number of atoms responsible for producing8.64 x  J of energy is given by ,

no. of atoms = total energy produced/energy of 1 atom of

                                        = 8.64 x /3.204 x

                                        = 2.697 x

Number of moles present in the given no. of atoms is given by

no. of moles = total no. of atoms/ avagadro number

                                          = 2.697 x / 6.022 x

                                          = 0.45 mol

Therefore, mass of the substance is given by

mass of substance = no. of moles x mass of 1 mole

                                                  = 0.45 x 235

                                                  = 10.58 g

So, the amount of  required per day to generate 10MW = 10.58 g
