Explanation:

The experiment use to measure percentage purity of impure sample of Oxalic acid using KMn04 is given below;

Take 2 g of oxalic acid and max it in 500ml of water. Now take 20ml of this solution and pour it in a titration flask. Fill the burette with KMn04 and note the initial reading

Now add one test tube of sulphuric acid to that titration flask. The flask is heated KnM04 is added in the flask till a pink colour starts to appear in the flask. Note the final reading in the burette.

Carry out calculation to determine percentage purity of impure sample of Oxalic acid by first calculating the molarity of oxalic acid

find out the percentage purity of impure sample of oxalic acid you are supplied M by 100 KMno4 solution

Explanation:

Indicator

KMnO4 is a self-indicator.

End Point

Colourless to permanent pink colour (KMnO4 in burette).

Procedure

Weigh 2.0 g of oxalic acid and then dissolve in water to prepare 500 ml of the solution using a 500 ml measuring flask. Rinse the pipette containing the oxalic acid solution and pipette out 20 ml of it in a washed titration flask.

Rinse and then fill the burette with M/100 KMnO4 solution.

Add one test-tube (~ 20 ml) full of dilute sulphuric acid (~ 2 M) to the solution in a titration flask.

Note the prior reading of the burette.

Heat the flask to 60-70°C and add then KMnO4 solution from the burette till a permanent light pink colour just appears in the solution in the titration flask.

Note the final reading of the burette.

Repeat the above steps 4-5 times to get a set of three concordant reading
