Ratio by mass of the combining elements in the following compounds can be calculated as:-

a) MgCO3-

Mg:C:O - Mass of Mg: Mass of C: 3 x Mass of O = 24:12:48 = 2:1:4

b) CH3OH

C:H:O - Mass of C: 4 x Mass of H : Mass of O = 12:4:16 = 3:1:4

c) CaCl2

Ca:Cl - Mass of Ca: 2 x Mass of Cl = 40:70 = 4:7

d) H2SO4

H:S:O - 2 x Mass of H: Mass of S: 4 x Mass of O = 2:32:64 = 1:16:32

e) Ca(OH)2

Ca:O:H - Mass of Ca: 2 x Mass of O : 2 x Mass of H = 40: 32: 2 = 20:16:1
