Hello there,
Taanka is a traditional rainwater harvesting technique indigenous to the Thar desert region of Rajasthan. A Taanka is a cylindrical paved underground pit into which rainwater from rooftops, courtyards or artificially prepared catchments flows.
There are three main types of rainwater harvesting system:
1) Direct pumped
2) Indirect pumped
3) Indirect gravity.
It is the traditional water harvesting systems that have made life possible even in the Thar Desert. The technology and engineering of the traditional water harvesting systems differed, depending on whether they were to provide drinking water or to be used for irrigation.
Even the Thar desert gets more rainfall.
Hope you find my answer useful.
