Algal bloom ⇒ It is due to excessive growth of blue green algae (BGA) in polluted water. BGA grows rapidly in polluted water and secretes toxic substances, these toxic substance is responsible for the death of aquatic animals. It also give bad odour to the water.
Red tides ⇒ Red tides are caused by a dinoflagellate called Gonyaulax. It spreads on the surface of water through rapid multiplication due to which the sea water appears red. It is called red tide it also secretes toxins harmful for marine animals.
