Well... See the basic reason is the global warming. Rather than that I will like to inform you that the level of Maldives and Lakshadweep is very close to the mean sea level. The islands are surrounded by all sides with water therefore, the risk is more high. No place in Maldives and Lakshadweep are at high altitudes which even more worsens the situation. The risk is so much high that even a small increase can lead to submerging of several islands of Maldives and Lakshadweep. The lack of topography is also the another reason why some of the islands of Maldives and Lakshadweep are under the threat of rise in sea level.​

For better understanding of the condition, lets take the example of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as the same fate is also met by the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. You see, when a small increase in sea level is there around the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the whole climatic conditions get changed...
