Global warming on large scale has affected The region enormously .The effects of global warming are as follows :

I) increasing temperature :- The temperature of water in Sundarbans has increased at an alarming rate of 0.5 degree °c per decade causing harm to its aquatic life and health of the mangrove forest . The span of summer season has increased while that of winter season has decreased .

II) Rising sea level due to melting of ice sheets has led to submergence various islands in Sundarbans .Moreover the plants in the mangrove forest are becoming shorter and narrower with fewer branches resulting in lower rates of photosynthesis necessary for their regeneration .

III) Increase in the intensity and occurrence of cyclonic storm has become a serious problem .The occurrence of cyclone Aila in 2009 had devastated the land .

Iv) Rise in the salinity due to increase of fresh water runoff has affected mangrove growth and soil fertility . So agriculture is also suffering from poor crop yield.

v) Due to global warming rainfall has become erratic and hence forced change in agriculture pattern is where is very causing low crop yield or crop failure.

vI) The intrusion of saline water causes severe stress on the availability of drinking water also .
