We have:

6, 21, p and 7 are in proportion

6 : 21 : : p : 7

We have to find, the value of p.

Solution:

If a, b , c and d are in proportion.

a : b : : c : d

∴ ad = bc

6 : 21 : : p : 7

Here, a = 6, b = 21, c = p and d = 7

6 × 7 = 21 × p

⇒ 21p  = 42

⇒ p  = \dfrac{42}{21}

⇒ p  = 2

∴ p = 2

Thus, the value of "p is equal to 2".

Given :- Find ‘p’ if 6, 21, p, 7 are in proportion. ?

Solution :-

we know that, if a , b, c and d are in proportion ,

⇒ Product of extremes = Product of means .

⇒ a * d = b * c .

given that,

  • a = 6
  • b = 21
  • c = p
  • d = 7

so,

→ a * d = b * c

→ 6 * 7 = 21 * p

→ 42 = 21p

→ p = (42/21)

→ p = 2 . (Ans.)

Hence, if 6, 21, p, 7 are in proportion value of p is "2" .
