SOLUTION.

An important point

  • We can not calculate the exact value of potential energy because potential energy changes with change in internal structure of the body which is impossible to calculate.
  • Hence we refer to change in potential energy.

Change in Potential energy is based on the reference point if you choose the surface of earth as the reference point than the potential energy of the body is zero.

But If we choose infinity as the reference point than the change in potential energy is Given as

U = -GMm/H

where H is the distance from centre of the earth.

where m is the mass of the body

M is the mass of earth

ACC to you question

U = (-6.67 × 10^-11)(6 × 10⁴)(50) / (6400 × 10³)

U = 2001 × 10^-7 / 6400 × 10³

U = 2.001 × 10^-4/64×10^5

U = 0.03 × 10^-9J
