The range is 160 and coefficient of range is approximately 0.667

Given : The data is, 120, 50, 90, 100, 180, 200, 150, 40, 80

To find : The range and coefficient of range for the given data.

Solution :

We can simply solve this mathematical problem by using the following mathematical process. (our goal is to calculate the range and coefficient of range for the given data)

Data = 120, 50, 90, 100, 180, 200, 150, 40, 80

Data arranged in ascending order :

= 40, 50, 80, 90, 100, 120, 150, 180, 200

In the above mentioned data :

  • Lowest value = 40
  • Highest value = 200

Range :

= (Highest value - Lowest value)

= 200-40

= 160

Coefficient of range :

= (Highest value - Lowest value) ÷ (Highest value + Lowest value)

= (200-40) ÷ (200+40)

= 160 ÷ 240

= 0.667 (approx)

Hence, the range is 160 and the coefficient of range is approximately 0.667
