The range of f(x) is (-∞, ∞).

Given:

f(x)=x, x is a real number .

To Find:

The range of f(x).

Solution:

For any function f(x), the domain of the function refers to the values that x can take and the range of the function refers to the values one can obtain for different values of x.

The given function is y = f(x) = x.

We can observe that since the given function is defined everywhere (there is no point of discontinuity), x can take any value from the real line.

⇒ The domain of f(x) = (-∞, ∞)

Also for every value of x, the function produces the same value of y.

Hence, the output of the given function can lie anywhere on the real line.

⇒ The range of f(x) = (-∞, ∞).

∴ The range of f(x) is (-∞, ∞).
