Explanation:

By mirror symmetry;

According to mirror symmetry the axis through which the whole circuit is symmetrical .

At which-which point axis touch or cut the resistances all point having same potential difference.

So, see my uploaded picture.

Between a and x

1/Rq=1/2+1/4+1/4

1/Rq= 1/1 so,

Rq=1ohm. ..........eq(1)

Between x and b.

1/Rq=1/2+1/4+1/4

1/Rq= 1/1 so,

Rq=1ohm. ..........eq(2)

Adding eq 1 and 2 ;

R.t=2ohm ...........................Answer
