So, his C.P. would be = y – (21.66/100)y = y - 0.2166y = 0.7834y

Profit Seller 2 made = S.P. – C.P. = y – 0.7834y = 0.2166y ….. (ii)

Step 2:

Considering Seller 1:

Let the C.P. of the good “x”.

So, his S.P. will become = x + (21.66/100)x = x + 0.2166x = 1.2166x …… (iii)

Profit Seller 1 made = S.P. – C.P. = 1.2166x – x = 0.2166x ….. (iv)

Step 3:

Since it is given that the S.P. in both the cases is the same, so, we can write from (i) & (iii),

y = 1.2166x

⇒ x = (1/1.2166) y

x = 0.8219y ….. (v)

 

Since the difference in the two profit earned is given as Rs. 1183, so, from (ii) & (iv), we have

0.2166y – 0.2166x = 1183

⇒ 0.2166[y-x] = 1183

⇒ y – x = 5461.68

⇒ y – 0.8219y = 5461.68 ….. [substituting from (v)]

⇒ 0.1781y = 5461.68

y = Rs. 30666.36

Thus, the selling price of the goods is Rs. 30666.36.
