Find sin theta and tan theta if cos theta=-12/13 and theta lies in 3rd quadrant

Given:- cos theta = -(12/13)= आधार/कर्ण---(1)

3rd quadrant में tan positive जबकि sin व cos negative होते हैं।

अर्थात् चूँकि tan theta का मान धनात्मक होगा इसलिए लम्ब व आधार भी धनात्मक होंगे।

समीकरण (1) से -

आधार = 12 , कर्ण = -13

लम्ब² = कर्ण² - आधार²

= 169 - 144

= 25

लम्ब = 5

अत: sin theta = लम्ब / कर्ण = 5/-13=-5/13

tan theta = लम्ब / आधार = 5/12
