Given :

The arithmetic progression 5 , 1 , - 3 , - 7 . . . .

To find :

10th term of the AP

Concept :

If in an arithmetic progression

First term = a

Common difference = d

Then nth term of the AP

= a + ( n - 1 )d

Solution :

Step 1 of 3 :

Write down the given progression

Here the given arithmetic progression is

5 , 1 , - 3 , - 7 . . . .

Step 2 of 3 :

Write down first term and common difference

First term = a = 5

Common Difference = d = 1 - 5 = - 4

Step 3 of 3 :

Find 10th term of the AP

10th term of the AP

\displaystyle \sf{  = t_{10} }

\displaystyle \sf{ = a + ( 10 -  1 )d  }

\displaystyle \sf{ = a + 9d  }

\displaystyle \sf{ = 5 +  \{9 \times ( - 4) \}  }
