To find:

Find the acceleration of block of mass m.  

Solution:

From given we have,

If the mass of the block is 2m, then its acceleration is a, then,

If the mass of the block is m, then its acceleration is 2a

we get the equations,

2mg - 2T = 2ma .....(1)

mg - T = ma .......(2)

T = m (2a) .........(3)

adding equations (2) and (3), we get,

mg = 3ma

a = g/3

The acceleration of mass m is = 2a = 2(g/3) = 3/2 g m/s^2.

Therefore, the acceleration of a block of mass m is (3/2)g m/s^2
