m₂ = 3 kg
a = acceleration
using the force diagram , force equation for m₂ is given as
m₂ g - T = m₂ a
T = m₂ g - m₂ a eq-1
using the force diagram , force equation for m₁ is given as
T - m₁g = m₁a
using eq-1
m₂ g - m₂ a - m₁g = m₁a
a = (m₂ - m₁)g/(m₂ + m₁)
inserting the values
a = (3 - 2)(9.8)/(3 + 2)
a = 2 m/s²
