Process:

  • Find the sum of the interior angles on this irregular pentagon
  • find the two missing angles (aside from x)
  • add the three angles (aside from x)
  • subtract the sum from the sum of interior angles of an irregular pentagon

Solution:

To find the sum of interior angles on this irregular pentagon

  • formula: 180° x (n-2), "n" is the number of sides of a polygon
  • 180 x (7-2)=
  • 180 x 3
  • 540
  • the sum of interior angles of this irregular pentagon is 540°

Find the two missing angles (aside from x)

  • the two missing angles are beside  70° and 60°
  • We all know that a straight line angle is 180°
  • so the first angle is, 180° - 70° = 110°
  • the last angle is, 180° - 60° = 120°
  • the two missing angles are 110° and 120°

Add the known angles inside the irregular pentagon

  • 30° + 110° + 120° =  260°
  • the total known angle inside the irregular pentagon is 260°

Subtract 260° from 540°, then divide by 2 because there are 2 "x"

  • (540° - 260°) / 2
  • 280° / 2
  • 140°
  • So x is 140°

Formula:

[(180-70)+(180+60)] + 30 + x + x = 540

          [110+(180+60)] + 30 + x + x = 540

                   (110+120) + 30 + x + x = 540

                               230 + 30 + x + x = 540

                                       260 + x + x = 540

                                           260 + 2x  = 540

                                  260 - 260 + 2x = 540 - 260

                                                     2x = 280

                                                     \frac{2x}{2x} = \frac{280}{2x }

                                                      x = 140
